In a landmark speech today, the Prime Minister of Australia, Anthony Albanese, declared that Australia will introduce a yet-to-be-determined but broad set of Australian Standards for AI.
This follows the success that the Australian government has had pioneering the implementation of a Social Media Ban for Australians under the age of sixteen.
Through my role as founder and chairman of Proudly Human, a company that verifies and certifies human creativity, I am acutely aware of the problems associated with unbridled use of AI.
It is my expectation that the Australian government will deliver rapidly on its commitment to introduce a broad set of standards.
Further, it is my hope that the government will aim for best practice regulations, which I define as regulations that simultaneously protect the people and facilitate economic growth.
That is what I call win-win regulation. Anything that focuses on either protection or facilitation to the exclusion of the other is what I call win-lose regulation. We must aim for nothing less than win-win.
