My Work
I wrote and directed Johnny Warren's Football Mission, a 52-minute documentary produced by Essential Media and broadcast on SBS in 2006. The film explores the life and career of soccer legend Johnny Warren alongside Australia's successful campaign to qualify for the 2006 World Cup, the nation's first since Johnny Warren's own team reached the 1974 World Cup.
My Inspiration
The film was inspired by Johnny Warren himself and by Australia's historic qualification for the 2006 World Cup. It was developed and financed through the SBS Independent Fund, produced by Ian Collie, and features Les Murray, Craig Foster and Ross Warren.
My Process
The heart of the film came from securing access to Johnny Warren's closest family, friends and teammates, together with the archive of Australia's football history. From those interviews and archival materials I shaped the story of a man whose lifelong mission was to see Australia embrace the world game.
