About the work
The elongated deep blue/green parti sapphire represents a pond at night, and the diamonds, moonlight filtering through the trees.
Inspiration
I'm generally inspired by the natural world, and Margaret is no exception. It's named after Margaret Davies, an Australian zoologist whose work helped to document Australia's amazing frog species.
Process
18k white gold (Certified 100% Australian), 4.11ct Australian Parti Sapphire, Lab Created Diamonds (Surat, India)
I photographed the gems and sketched the design around them in Procreate on an Ipad. Using this medium enables me to film the design process I went through, and can be seen in the accompanying video.
About the artist
I completed a Bachelor of Design (major Jewellery) in 2001 and have been working in the jewellery industry ever since. I'm primarily a jewellery designer, but I spent years hand‑making and setting all my designs myself. Currently, my time is split between running Utopian Creations, a retail and manufacturing business I started in 2005, and working with individual customers to develop bespoke designs.
